Exclusive interview and gallery updates

iF Magazine has an interesting exclusive interview with Deborah:

iF MAGAZINE: When you got the part, what did you know about Jessica?

DEBORAH ANN WOLL: Almost nothing. I had a three-line description – she was a sheltered Christian girl who’d been kidnapped for sacrifice. I had the scene from [Season One’s] Episode Eleven, running through the woods with Bill, so I knew that she had a nice little twist for her right in the beginning there. And then I think they pushed me as far as they could into the bratty mode. I was a little reluctant at first, but I think it turned out better for that.

I would say that [playing] the vulnerability is a little bit easier for me. Whenever you’re playing a side of a character that’s a little irritating or annoying, it’s a little bit of a worry that people will think that’s just how you are [laughs], so I think there’s a hesitation for me, which is why I was glad that they pushed me and said, ‘Keep going, we promise you this is right for the character.’ I had to trust the writer and the director a lot at that time. The vulnerable side is fun. It’s easy to play when you’re acting with someone like Jim Parrack – you just look in his eyes and it’s quite easy to fall in love [laughs]. That’s a really fun thing to play every day. It’s not a bad day at work when a cute boy makes love to you for hours. While I really enjoy the bratty side, and that’s the side you don’t get to explore very often, I like working with Jim and [playing] those scenes.

As you all know, the second season of True Blood is over. What I’d like to say… In the last episode, Beyond Here Lies Nothin’, we saw Jessica in a new, much more evil way than she used to be before, even in her first days nights as a vampire. She has got reasons though, after this Hoyt-and-his-Mom thing, so I still love her and I hope that there will be more Jessica in the third season of the show.
And the thing I almost forgot. I know we have a problem with the screencaps of the second season, but I promise I will add the rest of them soon.

More about Mother’s Day

If you’re interested in a new Deborah’s projects named Mother’s Day, this might be useful for you:

For those who might be unfamiliar, the original “Mother’s Day” is about a pair of young ladies who are captured by a backwoods family and sexually assaulted by the two sons, with the knowledge and blessing of their mother. Yes, they eventually kill their torturers and escape, but as is the problem with the rape/revenge subgenre, of which this movie is a part, the emphasis always seems to be on the rape. Allow me to state the obvious here: debasing women on film for shock value or cheap titillation is not entertainment.

Jessica and Bill in True Blood

There’s an article about True Blood and Jessica on Fangoria:

There’s also vampire-style parenthood, courtesy of Bill’s siring of teenager Jessica, played by Deborah Ann Woll. “I’ve ended up with a teenage vampire daughter who’s a nightmare,” Moyer laughs. “Not even Eric can handle this little thing. Sookie and Bill become these kind of odd surrogate parents for this girl, Jessica. [Woll] is amazing. She is just phenomenal to work with. And her first episode [after Jessica is turned], she was [playing Jessica as] an obstreperous and nasty little mouthy chick, and then the director said, ‘Let’s just do one where you’re less spunky and play it more as an innocent.’ So she played it as an innocent, and I suddenly went, ‘Oh my God. I suddenly have this paternal yearning to look after her.’ Which is quite interesting as Bill, because he has lost his kids a 150 years before. It’s like it suddenly peaks, this element inside him, which he had forgotten existed. So that’s not to say that the relationship is not without its problems, but it’s very interesting.”

Ecology and vampires

MNN.com has an article about ecology and vampires, that contains Deborah’s quote:

“There are water fountains all around and recycling bins so it makes it fairly easy to remain green while we’re working,” says Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Jessica Hamby on HBO’s True Blood, which has its second season finale Sept. 13. Woll has had a blast sinking her teeth into her vampire character, even though her fake fangs can be dangerous. “It’s a little hard kissing with them in. I have to be very careful.” Even so, the “balance between sweetness and danger” is fun to play. “I’m a very reserved person so to get on set and be totally crazy and wild is the greatest.” Look for her in an episode of Law & Order this season.

Deborah’s Little Murder and Choroideremia

Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast of Little Murder, a supernatural thriller also starring Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard and Lake Bell. The film centers on a New Orleans detective who is on the hunt for the killer of a beautiful cellist — who is accompanied in his quest by the girl’s ghost. It will be filming in New Orleans and Detroit. Matt Goldberg from Collider wrote an interesting article about this film:

I can’t tell how refreshing it is to know that “Little Murder” is a B-movie (which is putting it charitably). There is no other way to define it. Yes, Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard, and Lake Bell are leading the project but…no. It ain’t happening. But when you throw Peter Jason, Noah Bean, Deborah Ann Woll, and Bokeem Woodbine into the mix, you got a pretty fun thing going with the post-Katrina supernatural thriller, “Little Murder”. Find out how you make tiny kills in a B-movie after the jump.

Read the rest of it here. Also there is a not so long, but good article about Deborah on :

True Blood star Deborah Ann Woll is helping her boyfriend raise money to research the rare disease that’s slowly blinding him. Edward ‘E.J.’ Scott suffers from Choroideremia (CHM), a hereditary condition that also affects his brother and grandfather. The disease robs sufferers of their vision, and Scott, 33, is now reduced to walking around with the aid of a stick.

Woll, 24, says, “He is so proactive about preparing for this inevitability in the face of something so scary. I can only be awed by his strength and commitment.” The actress is determined to use her fame to help his plight and that of other CHM sufferers – and has enlisted a True Blood fansite to drum up support for a sponsored diet he is undergoing.
There is hope on the horizon, researchers claim they are just years away from clinical trials for a potential cure.

Woll meanwhile, is using her beau’s strength to inspire her own medical battle with Celiacs disease – a severe intolerance to food types.

She said, “I honour E.J. by being equally as strong in my much less life-changing predicament with Celiacs.”

And also there’s a huge interview with Deborah’s boyfriend E.J. Scott on The Vault.

“I will rise up” promo

Well, what can I say? Last night episode, “Timebomb”, was absolutely great! A lot of action, a lot of vampires, a lot of Jessica. And it’s really sad, I mean that thing that she’s discovered about herself. Poor Jess.
Anyway, here’s the next episode promo:
